The Kuchipudi dance form is famous for its grace, elegance and charm.Kuchipudi is a perfect amalgamation of "Nritta", "Nritya" and "Natya". The Nritta consists of a song; the Nritya or "Sabdams" includes the interpretation of the song through dance and Natya combines both into a complete dance drama having a storyline and characters.
Kuchipudi was nurtured, protected and refined by the great artists, who are responsible for its present form. Temple Ritual dances of Kuchipudi are such dance forms which are refined by great Guru late Sri.C.R.Acharya and nurtured by his daughter, guru Smt. Voleti Rangamani and her disciples like Tirumala Shilpa.
"Simhanandini", "Mayura Kauthvam" and "Mahalaxmi Udbhavam" are temple ritual dances of kuchipudi. During ancient time, temple dancers used to dance in front of the Rath, before the start of Rath Yathra on festive occasions and used to form the pictures of Vaahana(vehicle) of the temple deity with footwork on the color powder, spread in front the Rath. They used to form the pictures of Lion, Vaahana of Godess Durgadevi in Simhanandini dance, likewise picture of Peacock, Vaahana of Lord Kumaraswamy in Mayura Kauthvam dance and picture of Lotus, Aasan of Godess Laxmidevi in Mahalaxmi Udbhavam dance.
About Shilpa
Shilpa hails from a family with Cultural Background. Her parents Late Sri Pandari and Smt Geetha are active participants in cultural activities. Her younger sisters Manasa and Snehambika are also binded to the cultural world with thier respective activities of Lyric writing and Karnatic vocal singing. Shilpa is a meritorious student through out her academic career and also a gold medalist in her PG studies (Masters of Computer Applications) from her college.
Initially Shilpa started learning folk dance at a tender age of 2 ½ yrs from her first Guru being her mother and performed them at different cultural programs. Her parents recognized her interest towards dance and at the age of 5yrs they encouraged her to learn Kuchipudi dance from renowned Guru Smt. Voleti Rangamani.
In a short span of time, her Guru has recognized her as a remarkably talented student. She has learnt the fundamentals with in very short time surpassing her senior colleagues. Further, she has learnt and mastered maximum number of solo items within a short period.
She has also learnt prestigious temple ritual dance items "Simhanandini", "Mayura Kauthvam" and "Mahalaxmi Udbhavam" at a very early stage and performed them all over India at various cultural programs.
She is married to Sri. Sridhar Tirumala and currently working as an IT professional in USA, she is still an active dance performer with several achievements to her credit.
